New Haven School:A Theoretical Revolution of International Law in Cold War Period

Abstract

The cold war impasse following the World War II posed as a great challenge to international law and the relative research. In the same time the predominant school of realism of international relations not only denied the independence of international law but also belittled the role of international law, which constitute a major impact on theory and practice of international law.Faced with this challenge, the scholars of international law especially the school of New Haven tried to make a breakthrough.Though the alternative method of New Haven paves a new way for the international law against the background of power struggle of cold war,the negative side thereof can't be ignored.
