Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tuottaa opas aggressiivisen potilaan kohtaamiseen Sauvosaaren sairaalan hoitohenkilökunnalle. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli oppaan avulla lisätä hoitohenkilökunnan valmiuksia toimia ennaltaehkäisevästi ja turvallisesti kohdatessaan aggressiivisen potilaan.
Opinnäytetyöllä haluttiin lisätä hoitohenkilökunnan tietoisuutta aggressiivisten potilaiden kohtaamiseen liittyvistä riskitekijöistä sekä hoitohenkilökunnan kykyä tunnistaa vuorovaikutustilanteissa esiintyviä väkivalta- tai turvallisuusriskejä. Tunnistamalla riskit hoitohenkilökunta kykenee olemaan myötävaikuttamasta aggressiivisen tai väkivaltaisen tilanteen kehittymiseen. Opinnäytetyö tukee ja lisää hoitajien tietämystä aggressiivisen potilaan kohtaamiseen, jolloin pystytään ennaltaehkäisemään väkivaltatilanteita sekä tukemaan hoitajien ja potilaiden turvallisuutta hoitotyössä.
Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin työelämälähtöisenä tuotekehitysprojektina, jonka aihe tuli suoraan toimeksiantajalta. Tuotekehitysprojektin täsmällinen tavoite on uuden tuotteen kehittäminen, joka soveltuu sarjavalmistukseen. Tässä opinnäytetyössä tuote on opas. Opas sisältää tietoa aggressiivisen potilaan kohtaamisesta ja kuinka toimia tällaisessa tilanteessa. Oppaasta löytyy myös tietoa aggressiivista käyttäytymistä lisäävistä riskeistä ja kuinka ennalta ehkäistä aggressiivista käyttäytymistä. Opinnäytetyöhön kerättiin teoreettista tietoa kirjallisuudesta, tutkimuksista ja artikkeleista, sähköisiä tiedonhakuportaaleja hyödyntäen.The purpose of this thesis was to produce a guide on how to encounter an aggressive patient, made for the health care workers of Sauvosaaren sairaala hospital. The aim of this thesis was that with the help of the guide, to inform the health care workers on how they could act safely and with precaution when encountering an aggressive patient.
The aim of this thesis was to inform health care professionals about the risk factors of encountering an aggressive patient and to improve their skills in terms of recognizing occurrences of violence and considering safety issues in interaction with a violent client. By identifying these risks, the health care workers may be able to prevent escalation of an aggressive or violent situation. This thesis fosters and promotes knowledge about encountering an aggressive patient preventing violent situations and supporting the safety of health care workers and patients in the field.
This thesis is a work-oriented product development project for which the topic came directly from the commissioner. A product development project has an exact aim which is to create a new product that is suitable for serial production. In this thesis that product is the compiled guide. The guide provides information about meeting an aggressive patient and on how to act in such a situation. The guide also provides information about the risks of aggressive behaviour and how to prevent aggressive behaviour. The theoretical data for this thesis was collected from literature, research, and articles from electronic data retrieval portals
