Durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, conflito que viu nascer tecnologia de armamento sem precedentes, que elevou o ruído a níveis nunca antes atingidos, a perda auditiva terá sido frequentemente desvalorizada.
O próprio estado de desenvolvimento da Medicina, e da Otorrinolaringologia em particular, as condições nas batalhas nas trincheiras e as crenças/conhecimentos da época também não terão contribuído, certamente, para o diagnóstico e orientação correta da morbilidade auditiva apresentada pelos soldados.
Hoje, sabe-se que as consequências que o ruído pode provocar são vastas e o foco de atuação deverá ser, fundamentalmente, a prevenção.
Assim, este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o Trauma Sonoro e a morbilidade auditiva decorrentes da Primeira Guerra Mundial, visto que, na Medicina, é absolutamente essencial o exercício de regresso ao passado para avaliar os trabalhos dos nossos antecessores, com espírito crítico, no sentido de perceber os fatores positivos e negativos e procurar, sempre, melhorar o presente e futuro.By definition, Acoustic Trauma refers to an irreversible injury to the inner ear resulting from exposure to noise. During World War I, a conflict that saw the birth of unprecedented weapon technology which raised noise to levels never before achieved, hearing loss has often been undervalued. The very state of development of Medicine and Otorhinolaryngology in particular, the conditions of battle in the trenches and the beliefs knowledge of the time will certainly not have contributed to the diagnosis and correct orientation of the auditory morbidity presented by the soldiers. Today, it is known that the consequences that noise can cause are vast and the focus of action should be, fundamentally, prevention. The objective of this work is to carry out a bibliographical review on Acoustic Trauma and acoustic morbidity resulting from the First World War, since in Medicine it is essential the exercise of evaluation of the works of our predecessors, with a critical spirit, but always taking into account the context of the time
