A constituição da libras em Campina Grande-PB: uma história que emerge das narrativas de surdos (1970 – 1996)

Abstract

The constitution of Brazilian sign language in Campina Grande-PB: a story that emerges from the narratives of deaf (1970 – 1996)ResumoEste artigo tem como objetivo analisar elementos constituidores da Libras em Campina Grande-PB, narrados por surdos adultos narrados por surdos adultos, englobando fatos ocorridos entre 1970 e 1996. Adotamos como referencial teórico o Bilinguismo na educação dos surdos e histórias de vida como caminho metodológico. Nas histórias que nos foram narradas, identificamos os primeiros movimentos e momentos na e para a constituição da Língua de Sinais (LS) no município. Elas nos revelaram, principalmente, que ser surdo se constituiu identitariamente a partir do encontro dos sujeitos devido à criação de uma instituição para seu atendimento reabilitacional. O agrupamento possibilitou a emergência de uma comunicação que efetivamente lhes servia, libertando-os do padrão ouvinte imposto pelo Oralismo advindo do Congresso de Milão de 1880.Palavras-chave: Comunidade Surda. Libras.Abstract This article aims to analyze the constituent elements of Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) in Campina Grande-PB, narrated by deaf adults, containing facts occurred from 1970 to 1996. We adopted bilingualism in the education of the deaf and life histories as the methodological path. In the stories we were told, we identified the first movements and moments in and for the constitution of the Sign Language (SL) in the municipality. They reveal to us, above all, that being deaf is constituted as identity upon the meeting of the subjects due to the creation of an institution for their rehabilitation care. The grouping allowed the creation of a communication that effectively served them, freeing them from the listener standard imposed by the Oralism coming from the Congress of Milan in 1880.Keywords: Deaf Community.
