This research may be divided into two
sections; one which concerns melanoblasts and
their origin, the other which concerns melanomata
(both benign and malignant).Writers on malignant tumours of the eye,
when dealing with carcinomata, generally describe
them as secondary growths, while malignant tumours
of primary origin if pigmented have usually been
described as sarcomatous, and if non -pigmented as
leuco-sarcomatous growths.In his monograph on Melanomata (1925)
Dawson sought to establish that melanomata are
epithelial in origin. He suggested therefore that
wherever they occur primary melanomata are
carcinomata. The object of my research was to find
the nature and origin of the pigmented cells of the
uveal tract and to discover evidence for or against
the above-mentioned theory
