The growing production of solid waste in municipalities is an environmental, social and
economic problem for city management. Recycling solid residential waste is an important way
of reducing waste that goes to landfills, in addition to being a source of income for recyclers
and contributing to the health of the environment. The objective of this study was to analyze
the behavior of the quantitative per capita (kg) of official collection of recyclable solid waste,
by neighborhood in Uberlândia-MG, from January to December of 2020. The methodology
of multivariate analysis was used (cluster analysis) hierarchical) in the information on the per
capita quantity (kg) of recyclable solid waste from the selective collection carried out by DMAE Uberlândia. The results allowed the identification of neighborhoods that were grouped with
similar amounts but whose amounts differed between the groups and this same behavior could
be verified for the months. Cluster analysis proved to be effective in identifying groupings
of the variables under study, allowing for a distinction to be made between city regions and
months of the year with the highest amounts of selective collection; Policies for planning and
expanding selective collection; actions to encourage and raise awareness of the correct disposal
of recyclable solid waste can be based on studies such as this one in defining its guidelines and
procedures.
