Abstract

[1]Portland, Sept. 8, 1899My dear Mr. MuirIt naturally gave me pain to note that your abiding forth in glaciers seemed to leave little room for faith of another order and I resolved to apply the antidote at the earliest opportunity. There will come to you by mail from the publisher a little volume entitled Inquirendo Island , for which I bespeak your warmest attention. as a lady recently wrote me regarding Sartor02616[2]resartus , you should so far as possible empty your mind of preconceptions when you open the book so as to approach it in a condition of childlike reciprocity - and let it sink into your soul, so to speak.I had hoped to reach Martinez at about the same time as the book but am detained by some shadowy glaciers that refuse to declare them positively as either myths or veritable02616[3]shades of the departed.However my hope is merely deferred not surrendered, and I shall follow this line in a few days.Sincerely YoursG.K.
