In this article a left calcaneus is described, found on Maasvlakte 2 (Port of Rotterdam, The Netherlands). On the basis of a detailed comparison with calcanei of other felids, in particular the cheetah, the conclusion is established that the calcaneus can be identified as that of a leopard, Panthera pardus. The degree of fossilisation suggests we are dealing with a (late) Early Pleistocene or Middle Pleistocene specimen. This is the second reported find of this species from this location and only the fifth or sixth reported from the Netherlands. The articlefurther shows the potential of a simple measure, the breadth-length ratio of the calcaneus, for identification purposes as well as further analyses
