The William Hoy Story Churnin, Nancy Illustrated by Jez Tuya  Chicago: Albert Whitman & Company, 2016 9780807591925  The William Hoy Story is a heartwarming and inspiring true tale of triumph over adversity. Following the life and exploits of William Hoy, who was deaf, and his dream of playing professional baseball, Churnin crafts an extraordinary story of not letting one’s disabilities define one’s life. With period-accurate yet cartoonish illustrations, Tuya’s pictures add to the not only to the development of baseball as a sport, but also to the sentimentality and struggles of Hoy’s life, highlighting his determination to accomplish his dreams. I would highly recommend this book to more advanced young readers, and to all baseball enthusiasts, no matter the age! I would also highly recommend this book to special education librarians and teachers, or parents with children who have special needs; this book will surely inspire.
