e valorização do património.
The following work is part of a scientific research Project on urban rehabilitation
interventions having focus on the heritage of the Historic Centre of Porto. This work
has the purpose to complete the Masters Degree in Architecture and Urbanism at the
University Fernando Pessoa.
The historical centers and their dwellings are the result from the choices and ways
of living of the people of the past generations. Currently one of the largest urban
problems come from degraded areas that represent one of the consequences not only of
the architecture level but also of the economic, social, cultural and heritage that we live
nowadays.
Our present housing heritage is set on the self identity values and sometimes
represents a way of integration and valorization of the heritage in the rehabilitation
process.
Speaking in the historic center of Porto, it can be said that it is majority defined by
the Bourgeoisie Houses that were built according to the needs and traditions of that
period. Currently those building are in an advanced state of degradation.
Making an analysis at the specific case of this research – The Carlos Alberto
block – the purpose was to make a study about how the recent interventions made by
the Sociedade de Reabilitação Urbana, have been preserved, or not, the current heritage
