El propósito del presente trabajo es examinar la relación entre las capacidades cognitivas y la Teoría de la Mente (TM). Dicho trabajo se incluye en un proyecto aprobado por la Comisión de Investigaciones Científicas (CIC) de la provincia de Buenos Aires y llevado a cabo en el Centro de Estudios en Nutrición y Desarrollo Infantil (CEREN) desde abril de este año. El mismo se centra en la importancia del estudio más detenido de las relaciones de implicación entre dichas variables en niños preescolares con desarrollo normotípico. Se enmarca dentro de los estudios de la TM entendida como la habilidad para predecir y explicar el comportamiento de los demás, haciendo referencia a sus conocimientos, intenciones y creencias (Tirapu-Ustárroz, Pérez-Sayes, Erekatxo-Bilbao, & Pelegrín-Valero, 2007). Esta habilidad es de suma importancia para el conocimiento y control de sí mismo, la interacción social y los logros culturales.The aim of this paper is to explore the relationship among the cognitive skills and the theory of mind (TM) in preschool children with normal development. It centers within studies of the TM understood as the ability to predict and explain the behavior of others, referring to their knowledge, intentions and beliefs. Most of the investigations have been oriented to examine children with significant alterations in the development, without the specific purpose of analysing the relationship between TM and intelligence. To analyze the association between these variables, in this work evaluated 40 children with normal development from 3 years 6 months to 4 years 6 months. Two assessment tools were used: 1) the Scaling of Theory-of-Mind Tasks (Wellman & Liu, 2004) which includes tasks that examine different aspects of the TM ; 2) to explore the general cognitive ability, were used the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-III) (Wechsler, 2009). The results show moderate correlations between the performance in theory of mind tasks and the performance on the WPPSI III tasks. The analysis of these results will allow to arrive at a set of considerations concerning whether the TM is determined by general cognitive ability or if it deals of specific domain abilities.Mesas temáticas autoconvocadas: Competencias mentalistas en el desarrollo infantilFacultad de Psicologí
