The problem of this research was the aim of the curriculum was not achieved,
that the students had to master the vocabulary in order to be able to master four skills
of English. This research had 3 formulations of the problems: 1) is there any
significant effect of using Four Corners strategy on students’ vocabulary mastery, 2)
how is the students’ vocabulary master taught by using Four Corners strategy, 3) how
is students’ vocabulary mastery taught without using Four Corners strategy at SMP N
1 Singingi. The experiment was conducted at SMP N 1 Singingi from July 25 to
August 25 2016. The total of population of this research was 122 students from 5
classes and the sample was 50 students from two classes. This research used a quasiexperimental
research. In collecting the data, the writer used the test. This test was
used to collect data about students’ vocabulary mastery. There were two kinds of
tests: pre-test used to determine students’ vocabulary mastery before getting
treatment and post-test used to determine students’ vocabulary mastery after getting
treatment. The technique of analyzing data was an independent sample t-test and it
was eased by using SPSS 16 program. From the research findings, the score of t0 was
higher than ttable. It can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means
that there is a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery by using Four
Corners strategy at SMP N 1 Singingi.
