This research was conducted based on some problems in learning English
especially in term of reading comprehension of narrative text. The objectives of
the research were to find out if there was a significant effect on students’ reading
comprehension of narrative text taught by using Word Wall and taught without
using Word Wall at State Islamic Junior High School Al-Amin Rawang Kao. The
design of this research was Pre-Experimental Research. The population of this
research was the eighth grade students. The total number of population was 46
students. The writer used simple random sampling by selecting one class as a
sample. VIII B consisted of 23 students as experiment class. The instrument of
this research was the test which were consisted of pre-test and post-test. The test
was about narrative text in which there were 20 items by using multiple-choice.
In analyzing the data, the writer used paired sample t-test which was analyzed
statistically by using software SPSS 22 version. In order to find out whether or not
there was significant effect of using word wall on students’ reading
comprehension of narrative text, the writer provided the effect size or (Eta
squared). Based on the result, it was found that, the result of eta squared was 0.65
≥ 0.14 that was categorized into large effect. It means, Ho is rejected while Ha is
accepted. In conclusion, there was significant effect of using Word Wall on
Students’ Reading Comprehension at The Eighth Grade of State Islamic Junior
High School Al-Amin Rawang Kao.
