The purpose of this study is to examine the historical position of the historical work Tongsa (東史) by Yi Chong-hwi in the late Choson dynasty. Yi Chong-hwi was affected by the historical conception of orthodoxy in late Choson. In particular, he accepted the Tan-Ki orthodoxy (禮箕正統論) that was explained in Tongguk Yoktae Chongmok (東國歷代總目) written by Hong Man-jong (洪萬宗). Yi Chong-hwis Choson Chunghwaron (朝鮮中華論) is important in that it focuses on Tangun in ethnology, the North geographically, and the inheritance of kija culture (箕子 文化, Confucianism), That is different form the Chinese-Barbarian Thought that focused on Hanjok(漢族) in ethnology. Such a differentiation illustrates the understanding and adaption of Chinese thought according to the local conditions of Choson. which shows that Choson of the 18th century was culturally mature
