Varidase: the science behind the medicament

Abstract

Varidase used throughout the world for the topical treatment of purulent and suppurating wounds. The efficacy of the product is centred on two enzymes streptokinase and streptodornase; but these represent only a small proportion of the bulked solid. This article gives an overview of the preparation and mode of action of Varidase as well as showing some of the research and development that has gone into improving the assessment of its quality and composition
