Continuous cardiac output monitoring system

Abstract

A technique of continuous cardiac output (CO) measurement without injection of foreign fluids is discussed in this report. The cardiac output is obtained by multiplying the instantaneous cross-sectional area of the blood vessel with the blood flow velocity. The hardware and probes used for real time CO measurements are discussed. This technique of real time cardiac monitoring has been proven experimentally to be feasible. Accurate and linear results have been obtained.ARC 4/9
