The Relationship between Participation in Sport Activity Classes and Sociability of University Students

Abstract

This study was designed to examine the influence of participation in sport activity classes and sociability of university students. The participamts of this study consisted of 300 S" university students and 250 students out of the 300 were used for data analysis. Han's(1998) modified version of Jeong's(1971) was used for measuring sociability. The Cronbach'α of the measures ranged from .763 to .850. Factor analysis confirmed that sociability consisted of five factors: activity, emotional stability, dominance, social gathering, and self-regulation. The statistical techniqueby used for data analysis was a paired-samples t-test by SPSS/PC v 10.0 program. Results of this study were as follows : First, the students who participated in sport activity classes showed significant improvement in activity and dominance. Second, the students who participated in individual sport activity classes showed no significant difference in any sociability. Third, the students who participated in dual sport activity classes showed no significant difference in any sociability. Finally, the students who participated in team sport activity classes showed significant improvement in dominance and self-regulation.본 연구는 2001년도 서울대학교 발전기금 일반 학술연구비 지원으로 이루어졌음
