Tobón Uribe (HPTU) de la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia, durante el año 2019;
tiempo de formación en su habitación como un viaje a otro planeta.ABSTRACT: This research study took place in the pediatric area of the hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe
(HPTU) in Medellín, Colombia, during the year 2019; specifically, in isolation hospital
rooms with participants between the ages of 7 and 12 years’ old that had been admitted for
longer than a month, without the possibility of attending the hospital's regular classroom
Pablito. The purpose of this was to explore the children's perceptions of space and training
time, considering their education was interrupted because their illness.
For this purpose, the investigation was conducted under an interpretive paradigm and
a qualitative approach, also it was designed as a case study. The previous ones gave way to
understanding not only reality, but also the behavior that children have, which allowed them
to interpret the meanings they give to their experiences and their way of acting. Subsequently,
the technique chosen for data collection was the interview, which was guided by three
research questions that yielded various results, which allowed characterizing the participants'
perceptions of the training space and time.
This allowed characterizing the perceptions that the participants have of their training
space and time in nine analysis categories, being named White hospital, My house, Monotony,
Adaptability, Eclipse, Presidential Suite, Transformation, Birthday and Freedom. Through
these, a deconstruction of what is culturally conceived of hospitals is evident, such as those
spaces where there are only moments of pain. In addition, it is worth noting that the name of
the research arises thanks to the expression of one of the participants, in a situation of
isolation, when referring to their space and training time in their room as a trip to another
planet
