Adsorp-tion decreases with increase in the hydrated radii ofthe alkali ions. FeMo loaded on Dowex-l has loweradsorption capacity as compared to unsupported FeMo.SINCE the revival of interest in the field ofinorganic ion exchangers', considerable workh.as appeared in the literature" on the ion exchangeproperties of inorganic ferrocyanide compounds.In a search for an inorganic ion exchanger for theremoval of Cs and Sr, Baetsle and coworkerssynthesized molybdenum ferrocyanide or ferrocya-nide molybdate" (FeMo) and the more acid-resistantferrocyanide tungstates-" (FeW). Krtil preparedtungsten ferrocyanide and studied its ion exchangeproperties". Watari and coworkers have done con-siderable amount of work on inorganic ion exchangersloaded on organic resins (multi-loaded metal saltion exchangers) and have studied the behaviour ofcopper, iron, nickel Ierrocyanidest-". In the presentinvestigation ion adsorption properties of FeMo andFeW and resins loaded with FeMo were studied.Ferrocyanide molybdate (FeMo) - Ferrocyanicacid was prepared by passing a known concentrationof potassium ferrocyanide through Dowex-Sf) in theH" -forrn. To this solution requisite amount ofsodium molybdate was added to get a Moo/Fe ratioof 2, 3 and 4, and the PH of the mixture adjustedto 3 and was allowed to stand for 6 hr. The FeMogel was washed with 0·1 M HCl, decanted and laterfiltered and dried at 50°. It was then treated with1M HCI, filtered and dried.Ferrocya'nide t1mgstate (FeW) - It was preparedby adding requisite amount of sodium tungstateto ferrocyanic acid so as to get a WIFe ratio of 3.The final PH was adjusted to 1 and the whole mixtureallowed to stand for 24 hr. The gel was washedwith 1M HCl, filtered and dried at 70°Multiloaded exchanger: FeMo-Dowex 1 - Dow ex 1(50-100 mesh) was equilibrated with potassiumIerrocvanide and was washed with water. It wasthen equilibrated with necessary amount of sodiummolybdate (to give MofFe ratio = 3) and washedwith water. This cycle of loading with FeMo wasrepeated five times. It was later washed and dried.Characterization of FeMo and FeW !Iv Mossbauerspectroscopy - Matas and Zemick9 had studied aseries of ferro- and Ierricyanides. In the case ofIerrocyanides, chemical shift was found to decrease.To whom all correspondence should be addressed.
