Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to provide an understanding of the meaning of a performance of Padendang Ogi music in the ritual ceremony Mappaleppe\u27 Tinja\u27, and takes the form of an organoIogical, musicological, and cultural study. The angle of approach used is multi- disciplinary, with a cultural analysis and interpretation, and the data were collected through a bibliographical study, observation, and interviews. There are three main points to be focused on in the study. First, the reason for performing the music Padendang Ogi in the ritual Ceremony Mappaleppe\u27 Tinja\u27. Second, the connection or relationship between Padendang Ogi music and the Mappaleppe\u27 Tinja\u27 ritual ceremony. And third, the meaning of relationship between Padendang Ogi music and the Mappaleppe Tinja\u27 ritual ceremony. Basically, Padendang Ogi music is performed during the Mappaleppe\u27 Tinja\u27 ritual ceremony because of a desire from within the aristocratic community to honour the traditions and customs of their ancestors, known as ammemanging mattottoring. Padendang Ogi music is believed to possess supernatural powers which can give magi simpatetis for the inner prosperity of those who are holding the ritual ceremony. Padendang Ogi music has become an omen or a sign for the aristocracy to gain a prestige within the community. Padindang Ogi music is identified with the goddess Dewi Sange\u27 Sara which is a ritual part of community life. The relationship between Padendang Ogi music and the ritual ceremony Mappaleppe\u27 Tinja\u27, in addition to its ties with the myth of Dewi Sang\u27 Sari\u27e, the concept Sulapa\u27 Eppana ogre, the concept Dua Temmassarang Tellu Temmallaiseng, and as a symbol of sexual relations, is also connected to the power of truth of \u27Myr and `Baa" . The meaning of this relationship will either directly or indirectly creates a character with dedication, respect, and humilitya feeling of family, togetherness, co-operation and unity, create an interactive communication between members of the communityincrease community servicecreate peace and well-being, both of a material and spiritual naturestrengthen relationships between families and members of the communitycreate a harmonious communityincrease and broaden the insight of the community, particularly in understanding the meaning of lifedirecting members of the community to know and understand themselves, which in turn will gradually bring them closer to God. ⢠Keywords: performance music - ritual ceremony - the meaning of relationships. .
