Copolymerization of 4-vinylpyridine and styrene initiated by β-picolinium-p-chlorophenacylide

Abstract

705-706The radical copolymerization of styrene and 4-vinylpyridine, initiated by β-picolinium-p-chlorophenacylide (β-PCPY) in dimethyormamide (DMF) under nitrogen blanket at 60°C for 2 hr, has been studied dilatometrically. The various kinetic parameters such as rate of polymerization(RP), order of reaction (s) in [monomers]and [initiator] have been evaluated. he energy of activation(E) and k/kt values for the present system have been evaluated as 16.5 kJ mol-1 and 5.0 x 10-2 dm-3 mol-1 s-1, respectively. The reactivity ratios have been calculated as r1(4-vinylpyridine) = 0.80 and r2(styrene) = 0.90
