Scintillation studies of transionospehric signal due to multiple scattering

Abstract

114-120Multiple scattering theory has been applied to the problem of ionospheric scintillations using fourth moment equation The fourth moment equation has been solved numerically under parabolic approximations. The numerical results show the occurrence of focussing and saturation phenomena. The characteristics of scintillation index have also been discussed in reference to two irregularity spectra: (i) the Gaussian and (ii) the power law. For an ionospheric slab model of 200 km thickness at an altitude of 400 km, the numerical calculations yield S4 of about 1.08 which is in good agreement with the measurements of Vats et al.
