692-696A simpler method to synthesize methyl derivative of an alkaloid cryprosanguinolentine is described. 4-Hydroxy-2-methylquinoline is iodized using iodine, potassium iodide and aqueous sodium hydroxide and dehydroxyhalogenated with phosphorous oxychloride.
