The floatation studies on coal fines from Galeran area of Iran

Abstract

Coal fines less than 0.5 mm particle size, discarded as too fine for gravity separatioin, were subjected to flotation tests at varying pH, pulp density and other parameters using modified dosages of kerosene and diesel oil as oil phase and pine oil and MIBC as frother. Optimal coal recovery of over 66% was obtained using 1500 gram disel oil and 200 gram pine oil per ton of coal fines at a pH of 7 and an ambient temperature of25°e. The coal concentrate obtained under these optimal recovery conditions assayed 8.35% ash, 0.2% sulfur and 0.01% phosphorous, representing reductions in the ash, sulfur and phosphorous contents of approximately 60.8%, 76.74% and 44.44% respectively. These results show that the optimal flotation product could be utilized for metallurgical coke production
