THE INFLUENCE OF STORYTELLING WITH HAND PUPPET MEDIA TO HAND’S WASHNG BEHAVIOR IN PRESCHOOL CHILDREN AT TK ISLAM MARYAM SURABAYA

Abstract

Introduction. Hand washing behavior in children was important to prevent more disease that spread by hand. Lack of information to hand washing caused less of attention to hand washing behavior in children. These happens because health education method to teach hand washing behavior can’t be explanned. Storytelling with hand puppet media was one of health education method that can solved this problem. The aim of research was analyze influence of storytelling with hand puppet media to increase knowledge, attitude, and action of hand washing behavior in children. Method. The research was pra-experiment by using pretest-posttest one group desaign. Sample was preschool children at TK Islam Maryam Surabaya. 44 respondent was taken by purposive random sampling. The independent variable was storytelling with hand puppet media and dependent variable were knowledge, attitude, and action of eand washing behavior. Data were collected by using questionnaires and observation sheet. Data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with degree of significance p<0.05. Result and Analysis. Result showed that storytelling with hand puppet media was influence knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.02), and action (p=0.000). Discussion. It can be concluded that storytelling with hand puppet media was influence to increase knowledge, attitude, and action of the children in hand washing. So, it is suggested to use storytelling with hand puppet media as the health education to increase hand-washing behavior in preschool children.
