The larger fish had an overall length of 20.25 inches and weighed 67.75 ounces; the smaller measured 18.5 inches, and weighed 53.5 ounces. In attempting to swallow the smaller one, the larger fish had succeeded in getting 8 inches of the anterior end into its mouth and pharynx. At.this point the smaller fish lodged, and both died. The upper end of the esophagus of the larger fish was everted, suggesting some regurgitory action; the smaller fish, however, was firmly lodged, and even after death was removed with difficulty. Largemouth bass are noted for their voracious appetites; cannibalism in this species is not rare. This case, however, in which one fish has attempted to ingest another of nearly its own size, seems quite remarkable.--William B. Stallcup. CHENOPODIUM DESICCATUM for C. PRATERIC0LA: a Nomenclatural Correction.--When I made the combination Chenopodium pratericola var. oblongifolium (S. Wats.) Wahl in Bartonia no. 27, p. 19, Dec. 1954, citing- C. desiccatum A. Nelson in synonymy, I overlooked the fact, as had Aellen previously, that the latter is the earlier name for the collective species. This lapse has kindly been called to my attention by Dr. L. H.
