The study was based on a household survey to understand the impact of the Aarogyasri Community Health Insurance Scheme in operation across Andhra Pradesh state, India. It compared access to hospital care with that in the neighbouring state of Maharashtra.
This is an impact evaluation study undertaken 5 years after launch of the scheme in 2007. The National Sample Survey Organisation Health Survey* conducted in 2004 provided the baseline data for both states.
