The pedagogy of scientific translation (French-Spanish) in the European university environment: a pre-professional experience

Abstract

En este trabajo, se presenta un análisis comparativo basado en experiencias pedagógicas en materia de traducción especializada llevadas a cabo en el marco universitario español (Universidad de Alicante) y francés (Instituto de management y comunicación interculturales-ISIT). Para convertirse en profesionales competitivos y eficaces en el mercado laboral internacional, los estudiantes de traducción deben adquirir competencias lingüísticas, comunicativas e interculturales. En este marco, a través de proyectos de investigación aplicada, facilitamos el trabajar la traducción especializada (técnico-científica francés-español) desde la simulación de un encargo profesional, con su publicación posterior. Así, el estudiante se confronta a un desafío triple: el trabajo de gestión del proyecto profesional, la traducción especializada y la aproximación a un campo técnico-científico desconocido. Estos mismos elementos le permiten aprender a desenvolverse eficazmente y a afrontar las tareas que se le presentan en un contexto multicultural y multilingüe. Este tipo de ejercicio pedagógico permite que el estudiante de traducción desarrolle su saber, su saber hacer y su saber ser, convirtiéndose, con la ayuda del docente, en el constructor y gestor de su propio conocimiento.In this paper, we present a comparative analysis based on pedagogical experiences in specialized translation carried out in the Spanish (University of Alicante) and French (Institute of Intercultural Management and Communication-ISIT) university contexts. To become competitive and effective professionals in the international labour market, translation students must acquire linguistic, communicative and intercultural skills. In this context, through applied research projects, we facilitate the work of specialized translation (technical-scientific translation from French into Spanish) from the simulation of a professional assignment, with its subsequent publication. Thus, students must deal with a triple challenge: the work of managing a professional project, the specialized translation and the approximation to an unknown technical-scientific field. These elements allow them to get by effectively and to face the common tasks in a multicultural and multilingual context. This type of pedagogical exercise allows translation students to develop their aptitudes and attitudes, becoming, with the help of the teacher, the builder and manager of their own knowledge
