The activities of the BCS/CODASYL DDLC DBAWG

Abstract

The DBAWG is a research group, based in the United Kingdom, which is working on facilities for data administration. In particular the DBAWG has developed language specifications for a Data Storage Description Language (DSDL) for a CODASYL type database. The DBAWG has also developed a requirements specification of control functions which a Database Administrator (DBA) requires in order to control the day-to-day operation of a database. The DBAWG is currently looking at the requirements of, and language specifications for, Access Control facilities and Distributed Databases. This paper looks at all the aspects of the DBAWG's work, past, present and future. It briefly discusses the standardisation activities which the DBAWG is involved in
