Comparative Study of Nature-Inspired Optimization Algorithms for Aerodynamics Shape Problem of Subsonic Airfoil

Abstract

Abstract : The scheme of algorithm is decisively influence the result of aerodynamics shape optimization problem. There are many kind of optimization algorithms that being used, one of them is nature-inspired optimization algorithm such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). Moreover, geometry parameterization also become influential factor to consider. It is necessary to represent airfoil geometry in minimum number of parameters. The objective of this work is to describe airfoil geometry into several basic parameters using Parametric Section (PARSEC) parameterization and determine the suitable optimization scheme for a given optimization problem. The problem is formulated for subsonic airfoil, NACA 0012, and optimized using PSO and GA at 0.0 degree angle of attack, Reynolds number of 100,000, and Mach number of 0.1, while the optimization objective is maximizing the value of ci /cd .The result indicate that PSO scheme is more effective than GA scheme in finding the optimum solution for the given problem.Hal. 74-82:ilus.; 29,5 c
