The death is rite de passage which crosses life of everyone when the close ones die. Yet, we still do not know what effect it has on the individual person. The article presents a reflection on the learning in the time of bereavement and tries to add a component to the comprehension of learning as a lifelong process. We looked into how one changes when experiencing death by means of life story analysis. Evidence shows that learning takes place on physical, mental and spiritual level. One changes his/her attitudes and values. Therefore the narration of a life story is not merely a research method. Namely, it also unveils one self, which enables self-change and self-education.Smrt je rite de passage, s katerim se vsakdo sreča ob umiranju bližnjih, a še vedno razmeroma malo vemo, kako vpliva na posameznika. Besedilo poskuša odpreti razmišljanje o učenju v obdobju žalovanja in dodati drobec k razumevanju učenja kot vseživljenjskega procesa. S pomočjo analize življenjskih zgodb ugotavljamo, kako se posamezniki spreminjajo ob doživljanju smrti. Učenje poteka na telesni, duševni in duhovni ravni. Ljudje spreminjajo svoje odnose in vrednote. Pripovedovanje življenjske zgodbe ni le raziskovalna metoda, temveč je tudi odkrivanje samega sebe, kar omogoča spreminjanje samega sebe in samovzgojo
