The article describes the international project »Participation of the Adults in the Formal Education System«, which studies characteristics of formal education with the influences on viewpoints, motives and motivations for education. Apart from the theoretical bases of the project, motives encouraging individuals to register for formal education programmes are introduced.V članku je predstavljen mednarodni projekt »Udeležba odraslih v sistemu formalnega izobraževanja«, ki se ukvarja s proučevanjem značilnosti sistemov formalnega izobraževanja in vplivom na stališča, motive in motivacijo za izobraževanje. Poleg teoretičnih izhodišč projekta so predstavljeni tudi motivi, ki so botrovali vključitvi osebe v izobraževalni program
