The paper discusses the conceptual and legal basis for adult education in public libraries. In the second part it presents the results of the empirical research investigating interest to participate in different fields of education. The study included 943 adult users of Ljubljana City Library and showed the differences in the expression of interests in relation to sex, age and educational level of the users.V prispevku obravnavamo konceptualne in zakonske podlage izobraževanja odraslih v splošnih knjižnicah. V drugem delu predstavljamo rezultate empirične raziskave o zanimanju za udeležbo na izobraževanjih s posameznih vsebinskih področij. V raziskavi je sodelovalo 943 odraslih uporabnikov Mestne knjižnice Ljubljana. Prikazane so razlike v izraženem zanimanju glede na spol, starost in doseženo stopnjo izobrazbe uporabnikov
