9-Methylsulfanyl pyridine-stretched adenine and hypoxanthine derivatives have been prepared via regioselective reaction of a 5-aminoimidazole with 2-(bis-methylsulfanylmethylene)malononitrile [(NC)C=C(SMe) ].
