Abstract
Germinoma occurring in the medulla oblongata is extremely rare. We
report a case of primary intracranial germinoma arising in the medulla
oblongata of a 24-year-old postpartum female who presented with
progressive weakness of upper and lower limbs, seventh nerve palsy, and
decreased palatal movements. Her MR imaging showed a heterointense mass
lesion in the posterior portion of upper medulla, the histology of
which was reported as germinoma. Germ cell tumors should be considered
in the differential diagnosis of tumors occurring in the brain stem
