Sims, Ph.D. - Director rsims@uno.edu  Research Assistants:  Maria Pisaneschi and Tristan Greene November 30, 2010  Methodology 2 •The survey was conducted with 600 registered voters residing in Orleans (300) and Jefferson (300) Parishes. •The maximum margin of error in each Parish is ± 5.7%.  •Interviewing took place between November 18 and November 24, 2010.  •Results are representative of the population in terms of race and gender.  •Telephone numbers used for sampling purposes were taken from voter records. Orleanians are becoming more optimistic, and Jefferson residents less. Question:  Now I‟d like to ask you two questions about the economy in Orleans/Jefferson Parish.  Is each of the following very good, good, fair, poor, or very poor? 14 Higher Education  Budget Cuts   15 Awareness of Higher Ed Cuts Mention Higher Ed, 55% Mention Other/DK, 45% • Over half of residents demonstrate an unprompted awareness of the large budget cuts that state higher education have experienced.    Question:  Over the last two or three years, Governor Jindal and the State Legislature have had to make a number of cuts to the state budget in order to keep the budget balanced.
