Abstract

The predominant answer to the euro crisis in the German political landscape is simple: if all euro countries carry out the same structural reforms on the labor market and social security systems as the Germans, the euro will be saved and Europe is about to embark on a new era of economic prosperity. If this policy is unsuccessful, the price is enormous: persistent recession, mass unemployment, an increasing level of poverty and social exclusion, as well as cuts in social dialogue shape the picture in the countries most affected by the crisis
