This article analyzes how the library and the education in general contribute to the generation of knowledge. This
analysis is divided in four items that together give as a more clear idea of how important it is to generate knowledge
at libraries; the items tackle in this article are: 1. The value of the knowledge; 2. The library as a administrator of
knowledge; 3. The education institutions and the generation of knowledge; and finally, but not less important, the
libraries as builders of knowledge chains
