The author discusses the present state of knowledge and
studies on the historical changes in the settlement pattern of the
Warta river valley along its segments from Działoszyn to Kochlew.
These events are chronologically en compassed by the period between
the Late Pleistocene and 13th - 14th centuries. Archeological studies
conducted at Madeły, Przywóz and Toporów by the Museum of Wieluń
Region and the Archeological and Ethnographic Museum in Łódź, and
their more interesting results are presented in greater detail (for
