Łódź przed dwoma wiekami powstawała z tradycji niejednorodnych, i podobnie powstawał – jako mozaika różnych treści intelektualnych – Uniwersytet Łódzki.The old books collection located in The Old Prints Section numbers about 28 thousand volumes. They are mostly German literature from the XVI to the XVIII century. The collection also includes numerous old Polish books described in this article among which can be found travel reports from the XVII and the XVIII century.
The article is divided into two parts. The first part is a short overview of the whole collections of the Section. The following part presents various kinds of Polish travel publications from the XVII and XVIII century. They are divided into the following categories: travel reports; geographical dictionaries and lexicons; descriptions of the world, particular countries or geographical lands
