ABSTRACT
The purpose of this studying to develop Instructional Material of a Course book based on the autonomous learning with the main teaching procedure: presentation, practice, and production for Senior High School Student, the research question is: what are the learning needs of the students of senior high school in speaking skill. How is the course design developed based on the autonomous learning by using the ADDIE stage?. What are the students and teachers perception on the designed speaking instructional material based on autonomous learning?.
This development research consisted of need analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The need analysis through deep discussion presents a model of English teaching and prototype which was tried out to get appropriate instructional materials with pre-test and post-test design at three secondary schools. The instructional materials and instruments used were validated by the experts in their field. At every stage of development the materials were discussed and validated.
The result indicated that instructional materials based on autonomous learning and the procedures of presentation, practice, and production are appropriate for students and school curriculum. Instructional materials with different strategies and various materials effective to improve the English achievement of the students. Both teachers and students argue that the instructional materials are good enough to be used in teaching and learning process to increase the English achievement of the students.
