This study aim to describe the cultivation of disciplinary character through
scouting extracurricular activities at SMP Negeri 3 Teras in the academic year
2019/2020. This type of research is qualitative. The subjects of this study were the
principal, scoutmaster and students of SMP Negeri 3 Teras. Data collection
methods using interview, observation, and documentation. The result showed that
the scouting extracurricular program could instill discipline character education
in students of Teras 3 Junior High School. Scouting extracurricular is carried out
through planning which consists of semester, monthly and weekly activities. In the
implementation of Scouting activities guided by the Basic Principles and Scouting
Methods. Scout coaches use school rules, pocket books and collaborate with
counseling in processing student report cards. Evaluation includes assessment
that comes from the results of the activities and character of students when
participating in scouting education. The process of planting disciplinary
characters is carried out in routine weekly exercises according to the schedule of
activities, opening ceremonies, marching rules and smaphores. The obstacles in
instilling disciplinary character in scouting activities are students do not like, feel
afraid, do not understand the material, the influence of mobile phones and invites
friends not to attend. The solution is done by coaching along with sanctions by the
scoutmaster, homeroom teacher, and counseling guidance for students who do not
enter without explanation. In addition, students were given scouting material on
certain days with a return hour according to the previous meeting. Scout coaches
make attendance at each student, the game and providing motivation to learn
