ForewordAs the Chair of the Organizing Committee for the inaugural East Coast Seminar of the CanadianPetroleum Law Foundation, I am pleased to mark the publication of the papers presented at thatSeminar in this special publication of the Dalhousie Law Journal.The convening of this Seminar reflected the maturity of the petroleum industry offshore AtlanticCanada. The approximately 100 presenters and attendees represented a great breadth of regulatory,in-house counsel and law firm participation from both Western Canada and Atlantic Canada. As asign of this maturity, the CPLF has now committed itself to the formation of an East Coast sectionof the Foundation.For the CPLF, the publication of these papers represents the first collection of a wide range of writtensource material over the broad spectrum of legal issues in the Eastern Canadian offshore legal regime.These papers will make a significant contribution to the future work of regulators, corporate counseland practitioners in this industry and the Foundation is proud to have been able to initiate and bringtogether this important body of work.The Foundation is greatly appreciative of the dedicated work of the presenters who prepared anddelivered these important papers at the inaugural Seminar. The Organizing Committee also extendsits great appreciation to Liz Bhar in the burdensome task of soliciting the papers, arranging their finalediting and then their publication.Michael F.
