“Man sieht nur, was man weiß”. Völkerwanderungszeit in Schulbuch und Museum

Abstract

Arheološke raziskave zadnjih štiridesetih let so spremenile prvotno predstavo o obdobju preseljevanja ljudstev, pozne antike in zgodnjega krščanstva v Sloveniji, Italiji in Avstriji. The last forty years of archaeological research have changed the way we view the Migration Period, Late Antiquity and Early Christianity in Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. Excavations and the processing of finds are costly, yet the results have barely been presented in Austrian textbooks. In museums, available information is often scarce, and in textbooks it is sometimes reduced to clichés. In the future, public relation offices and educational services should be more aware of these problems.
