Transcription:[fragment letter undated, no salutation or address]snow was gone and it is now as forward as usual and things are flourishing, prospect for fruit good Shoe business is improveing The new Church was dedicated yesterday it passed off well a^nd there was a grandrush I consider it fortunate for you that you are stationed way down in Fla. If you were in Va. your duties would be arduous and heart-sickning in the extreme.. Mr Noyes saw a young man at Manchester the other day belonging to the N.H. 2nd who hada bullet lodged in his shoulder at the battle of Williamsburg depriving him of the use of his arm he said he con-sidered himself fortunate compared with what he saw in the Hospital he said there was a pile of arms and legs in one corner nearly 2 feet high I received news yesterday of a terrible battle being fought at Richmond McClellan says ^in his despach our loos is [veary*] heavyTranscription:the rebels immense the ground was literally covered with dead bodies so thick in some places that he could not advance without tr^ae^ding on them. since writing the above I have learned that the loss was not so great. the battle was fought 7 miles from Richmond on Saturday & Sunday our forces were driven back on Saturday but on Sunday the rebels were driven back at the point of the bayonet with great[---*] and 500 prisoners taken Fremont is driving the rebels in his department; I suppose you have already heard of the evacuationof Corinth by the RebelsReports are so contradictory aboutthe union sentiment among the people of the south that it is very difficult to come to any con--clusion in the matter you have undoubtedly as far as your ownTranscription:observation has extended come to some definite conclusion in the premises, will you be so kind as to give me your views of the case What has become of Col Whipple has he been made a Brig General. Is Lieut Col. Bell in command of your Regt..There is so little of inte--rest doing here that it is difficult for me to select anything that would be likely to interest you hence this dull epistle. I feel as thought it ^would take quite a numberof them to compensate you for one of yours. Write soon for I prize your letters highly you have a very interesting way of describeing things and I should miss your letters very much. I don’t say thisto flatter you but in good faith All well, I hope this will reach you soon Yours Respectfully Wm C LittleTranscription:P.S. I have finished planting and have commencedhoeing.
