In the article the author deals with the question whether we can today, in the age of postmodernism still relevantly speak of avant-garde art. In author's opinion such art retains today only some of its previous importance. Also, the politicised avant- garde art, typical for some of the historic artistic avant- gardes and the neoavant-gardes has disappeared. The origins of the aims of avant-garde art can be traced to Romanticism, with the present »weak« artistic avant-gardes being devoid of many of the previous key features, the essential of which were linked to the eschatological nature of the often concurrent political avant-gardes. This situation has consequences also for aesthetics.Avtor se sprašuje, če lahko v postmodernizmu še relevantno govorimo o umetniških avantgardah. Po njegovem mnenju takšna umetnost danes ohranja le del svojega prejšnjega pomena. Izginila je tudi politizirana avantgardistična umetnost, ki je bila značilna za nekatere zgodovinske umetniške avantgarde in neoavantgarde. Izvore ciljev avantgardne umetnosti lahko najdemo v romantiki, pri čemer pa sedanjim »šibkim« avantgardam manjka vrsta značilnosti prejšnjih avantgard. Večina teh je bila povezana z eshato-loško naravnanostjo pogosto sočasnih političnih avantgard. Ta situacija ima posledice tudi za estetiko
