Aesthetics, which can be defined as philosophy of beauty, as philosophy of art or as metacriticism, is analysed in its relationship to sciences and to philosophy. The author concludes that aesthetics is destined to pertain someplace between both and to use unscientific notions and scientific concepts. Aesthetics can use scientific methods of argumentation, but not its methods of verification. The author defines aesthetics as a part of philosophy of culture, for in such a way aesthetics legitimately deals with art only and must take into consideration that art always passes through the filter of socio-historical fabric.Avtor estetiko, ki jo lahko razlagamo kot filozofijo lepega, kot filozofijo umetnosti ali kot metakritiko, proučuje v njenem razmerju do znanosti in filozofije ter ugotavlja, da je estetika prisiljena vztrajati med obema ter uporabljati pri tem tudi neznanstvene pojme in ne le znanstvene koncepte. Estetika lahko od znanosti privzame metodo argumentiranja, ne pa tudi njene metode verifikacije. Po avtorju je estetika del filozofije kulture, kajti na ta način se legitimno ukvarja le z umetnostjo in to nujno vedno dojeto skozi filter družbe in zgodovine
