Youhave succeeded in your mission.Rest in piece.  (That means “rest in part”,i.e. “not wholly”, which is to say, “a partial rest,” –as it were “an incomplete assuagement [?] ofcare”, as who should say “my foot sleeps.”)Go to!  Anoint thee!  Shoot thou in mydirection no more English classic; I am not educated up to it.--- --- --- --- ---O, Gladys, I’ve such a pile to tellyou, -- and it takes so darned longto write it!  You won’t mind, will you, ifI just sketch it in and give you just an idea of it? – Voila! –1. I have been elected to membershipin the Poetry Society of America, whose home is National Arts Club Bldg. GramercyPark, N. Y., whose President is Edward J. Wheeler of Current Literature, whosecharter members of Prof. Hugo Munsterberg, Dr. Henry Van Dyke, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Josephine Preston Peabody, TheodosiaGarrison, etc, etc.. I am the only person inMaine who belongs, I think.  I have lookedup the addresses of all the members in thelittle book they sent me.  And I am the young-est member, I’m almost sure.  Isn’t it great?2. Next fall I’m going either to Vassar or Smith, I don’t knowwhich.  I’m registered at both places.Wealthy-summer-people idea,you know, were here this summer,not Mrs. Sterns (it is the same one), some New York people, -- thatcrowd wants me to go to Vassar; the Smith crowd is an altogetherdifferent one, an Ohio woman whowas here this summer, a North-ampton woman (where Smith is),the Head of the Eng. Depart., and thePresident, Mr. Burton, who has just written to offer me a full tuitionscholarship, and more “financial aid” if I should decide to go there.Don’t tell everybody this mess, justthe family, -- which is all that wouldbe interested anyway.  Did you everhear anything like this in all your life?3. Louis Untermeyer, with whom Iam corresponding, you know, reviewedThe Lyric Year in his column in theChicago Evening Post Dec. 27, and gave me the loveliest!  --- 40 lines!4. This month’s Forum (Jan.)contains a review of the book byCharles Vale, --- almost the wholeof my poem is given, and he sayssome great things about it.(This sounds awfully egotistic, butit’s the only way I can tell it, andyou do want to know, don’t you?)5. Mr. Fiske’s wife’s sister (you know I toldyou, --- or didn’t I? --- how much have I told you before, Gladys?  Did I tell you aboutWitter Bynner?  I did, didn’t I?  Mr. Fiskeis one of the contributors who wrote me)is a Ph. D. and teaches chemistry at Vassar.6. Miss Kueffner [?] another Ph.D. who teaches German at Vassar, belongs to the PoetrySociety.7. I told you about Miss Ritterhouse’sreview in the N. Y. Sunday Times, didn’t I?Gladys, tell me what I haven’t toldyou and then I’ll write and fill thosethings in.  I’ve had to write it and tellit to so many people that I don’t halfknow what I’m doing.  Don’t get exas-perated with me if I’ve told things over.I’m not responsible.Love, (to all)Vincent.P.S.
