Development of An Attitude Scale Towards Reading Scientific Texts For University Students: Validty and Reliability Study

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, üniversitelerde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin fen metinlerini okumaya yönelik tutumlarını ölçebilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir tutum ölçeği geliştirmektir. Araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan 48 maddelik 5'li likert tipindeki fen metinlerini okumaya yönelik tutum ölçeği, Ankara ili Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi'nin beş farklı bölümünde öğrenim gören 251 üniversite öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucu elde edilen 30 maddelik 5'li likert tipindeki ölçek, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi için Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi'nin beş farklı bölümünde öğrenim gören 317 üniversite öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Yapılan analizler doğrultusunda, geliştirilen ölçeğin üniversite öğrencilerinin fen metinlerine yönelik tutumlarını ölçmek için güvenilir ve geçerli bir ölçek olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measure of university students' attitudes towards reading scientific texts. This attitude scale developed by the researchers includes 48 items in type of Likert of 5. This attitude scale was implemented in totally 251 students who studying at five different sections of a university education faculty located in Ankara. The attitude scale which includes 30 items in type of Likert of 5 obtained the results of exploratory factor analysis was implemented in totally 371 students who studying at five different sections of a university education faculty located in Ankara for confirmatory factor analysis. It is concluded that the scale is a reliable and a valid tool for measuring the attitudes of the university students towards reading scientific texts
