inspecciones correspondientes. The following work explains the functioning of the Fire Fighting Systems on board a ROPAX type ship, specifically in the Volcán de Taburiente, that belongs to the Naviera
Armas S.A Company.
These systems are responsible for providing greater safety to both people on board and
the ship itself, and for this reason, the ship have the necesary elements for, in a real case
of fire, reduce the personals and materials dangers using the fixed and portable systems.
It is also essential, in addition to these fire-fighting systems, that the crew have
knowledge and skills to act in case of a fire and that this can be suffocated in the shortest
time possible and without endangering the people on board.
For this to be possible, training courses are carried out on land, indispensable for
boarding, like on-board safety exercises on board to put this knowledge into practice
and to keep always in mind how to act in these cases.
Additionally to the crew, these fire-fighting systems must be operational at all times,
since it is never known when they will have to be used. Therefore, the officer charge is
responsible for keeping these equipment in good condition by giving it proper
maintenance and checking to ensure that they work properly, following the security
management system.
It is essential that all the fire fightings systems must be homologated, comply with the
regulations and passed the inspeccions
